The field of Generalized Functions comprises, among others, distributions, ultradistributions, hyperfunctions and algebras of generalized functions. It has a longstanding tradition starting in the mid twentieth century and is actively pursued by many research groups all over the world.
The field has always developed along the requirements of applications, notably in linear and nonlinear PDEs (generalized solutions and regularity), geometry (linear/nonlinear distributional geometry), mathematical physics (general relativity, mathematical geophysics, fluid dynamics, quantum field theory), stochastics (generalized stochastic processes and SPDEs) as well as harmonic analysis (Fourier integral operators, propagation of singularities), both in theoretical and numerical aspects.
The Interest Group in Generalized Functions sees itself as firmly grounded in Analysis and thus will benefit from and contribute to the areas represented in ISAAC. Its main focus will be on generalized functions; it will explicitly represent and enhance this important additional aspect common to many fields pursued by ISAAC.
Under the umbrella of ISAAC, the interest group should provide a platform of cooperation for the various reseach groups in generalized functions with groups from adjacent fields. In addition to contributing to the ISAAC congresses, the group plans to organize intermediate workshops as well as specialized meetings.
